Smart 453 Disable Stop Start Function

The stop-start feature on the Smart 453 is very slow to react and EXTREMELY annoying.

There are two options to disable it:

  • Order a plug in “stop start disabler” from AliExpress which is in essence a timer that you wire in-line with the stop start switch which makes the car think you’ve pressed the button to disable the stop start shortly after you switch on the ignition.
  • Code out / disable the feature using a tool like DDT4ALL:

To disable stop start permanently you need to set a value in the one of the cars ECUs:

Once you have scanned for all of the ECUs in DDT4ALL you need to double click the EMM_EDDISON_DDT2000_SW13_1_V1.3 (your version number may differ) ECU from the list on the left.

The action list below should populate and now you need to expand the EMM_AlternatorManagement category and then double click the EMM_AlternatorManagement – Config action group which present you with all of the available options.

Click the Expert Mode (picture of Albert Einstein) at the top of the screen which will allow you to make changes.

NOTE: I would recommend taking a screen shot of the settings before you change anything.

Find the C_B_STOPSTARTInhibit option/flag and in the WRITE column enter a 1 (instead of a 0).

Finally just to the right of the WRITE column you’ll see a write changes button, click that and your stop start is now disabled.
